There are no less than 15 state secondary schools in Derby. Outside the state sector, there are three fee-paying independent schools. Derby Grammar School was founded in 1994 and continue the work and traditions of the former Derby School, which closed in 1989, one of the oldest schools in England. Derby High School is for girls-only for senior and sixth form and for girls and boys at primary level. The University of Derby has its main campus on Kedleston Road and has a range of undergraduate and post-graduate courses.

As you’d expect from this centrally-located city, it has extensive transport links with other areas of the country. The M1 motorway passes to the east of the city, linking Derby south the London region and north towards Sheffield and Leeds. Other major roads passing through or near Derby include the A6, A38, A50, A52 and A61.
East Midlands Airport is situated about 15 miles from Derby city centre and is served by budget airlines, with regular flights to UK and European destinations.
