Local facilities

Shieldhill has a primary school for your younger children, a Post Office, a couple of convenient takeaways, and two local shops for picking up day-to-day shopping. For your weekly shop, there’s a Tesco supermarket in Reddingmuirhead, just a mile away. Falkirk’s Central Retail Park and choice of Superstores add to your shopping list, while its choice of secondary schools, further education campus, and leisure facilities, add to the options for growing families.

Transport and travel

The nearest train station is at Polmont, a short 9-minute drive away. It offers ScotRail services on the Glasgow to Edinburgh line via Falkirk, in addition to services on the Edinburgh to Stirling line. Commuters can join Junction 5 of the M9 just north of Polmont and the A883 from Falkirk takes you to Junction 1 of the M876 which becomes the M80.

Local landmarks

The Firth of Forth, The Falkirk Wheel, and the famous Kelpies, are all part of the natural and man-made landscape here. For sport, leisure, and entertainment local venues include the Polmont Sports Centre, the Falkirk Stadium, Callendar House and Lake, Muiravonside Country Park and the Helix Park. Linlithgow Palace plays a huge part in Scottish history. It’s been closed for renovation work, but it’s hoped that visitors will be welcomed back there very soon.
