There are also excellent bus routes operating in and around Wallsend taking you to the coast and city, as well as to other nearby towns and villages. Newcastle airport is also within easy reach.
Less than 5 miles from Stephenson Park you'll find Long Sands Beach; as the name suggests it's a stretch of beautiful golden sand, lying to the north of Tynemouth, and is perfect for families, runners, dog walkers, and surfers alike. It's Blue Flag-rated and has everything you'd need for either an energetic or a relaxing day. Approximately one mile from Long Sands is Tynemouth Priory and Castle. Once one of the largest fortified areas in England, it dominates the headland and offers beautiful views of the River Tyne and the North Sea.
You can explore Segedunum Roman Fort and Museum for an insight into the days of the Roman Empire, and walk along Hadrian's Wall, the renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site.
