Bridgwater Cricket Club secure funding for disabled facilities from Severn Valley
28 October 2022

A Somerset cricket club that provides organised cricket for disabled players has been handed a major boost thanks to Severn Valley region.
Bridgwater Cricket Club has received a £1,000 grant from Severn Valley as part of the Community Champions scheme.
We make £64,000 a month available to fund local community initiatives across Great Britain.
Bridgwater CC is an England and Wales Cricket Board accredited club and is undertaking bigger and bolder steps in its quest to bring cricket to more children and adults.
Last summer saw the club embark on its first venture into disability cricket in conjunction with Somerset CCC, and the club is currently fundraising to modify its clubhouse to accommodate disabled toilet facilities.
Commenting on the donation, Bridgwater’s Vice Chairman, Mark Rose said:
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be receiving this funding from Persimmon Homes, and it’s a real boost as we seek to improve our facilities.
“We’ll use this donation to support the provision of disability cricket at the club and the significant outlay we are making to improve our facilities.
“This £1,000 grant from Persimmon Homes couldn’t have come at a better time so we’d just like to say a massive thank you for selecting us.”
We are currently constructing 75 much-needed new properties at the nearby Chaucer's Meadow development on Taunton Road.
The development, which spans 5.68 acres, will create 105 full-time direct jobs and is made up of a choice of two, three and four-bedroom homes.
Carly Spear, Sales Director for Severn Valley, said:
“It’s great to be able to support a community club like Bridgwater improve its clubhouse facilities.
“Central to the Persimmon ethos is supporting the communities in which we are building – and Community Champions is one way in which we do that.
“Bridgwater is one of the region’s leading cricket clubs and its latest inclusive venture into disability cricket to increase access to the game is commendable.
“Alongside building much-needed homes at our nearby development at Chaucer’s Meadow, we are also determined to leave a positive lasting legacy in the local community, and Bridgwater is a fitting recipient of this funding.”
