Care farm in Essex receives £2,800 boost from Persimmon
06 August 2025
We’re delighted to announce that Wellies-On, a care farm based in Abberton, near Colchester, has received a £2,800 donation from Persimmon Homes Essex through our Community Champions Scheme.
The funding will help the farm build a new undercover space, allowing groups to continue benefiting from its services during the colder months.
Wellies-On provides vital support to individuals with learning disabilities, mental health challenges, and those affected by domestic abuse through occupational therapy, animal-assisted and nature-based interventions, and mental health support.
“Thank you to Persimmon Homes for this wonderful donation that will go so far in helping us provide further services here,” said Ellie Goff, Managing Director of Wellies-On.
“We work with young people and adults who have a range of needs, and this really does provide a sanctuary for them. Working with the animals and being part of our community boosts self-esteem, promotes independent living and improves physical fitness.”
The cheque was presented by Matt Atton, Director of Land and Planning for Persimmon Homes Essex, who said: “We are passionate about supporting the wider community and it is an honour to be able to work with Wellies-On as they strive to build the new undercover area.”
Also in attendance was Cllr Robert Davidson, Colchester City Councillor for Mersea & Pyefleet Ward, a long-time supporter of the care farm.
“We would like to thank Persimmon for their generous donation to such a valuable organisation within our community and giving something back to the area.”
Through our Community Champions programme, Persimmon donates £700,000 annually to good causes across Britain, helping to create a lasting legacy in the communities where we build.
