Central team volunteers for Birmingham Hospice

14 September 2023

A Birmingham-based hospice has received a refresh to its outdoor spaces, thanks to a volunteering day held by our Central team.

Members of the team volunteered their time to sprucing up the outdoor spaces at the hospice’s Erdington site. Birmingham Hospice works towards its vision of a future where everyone with a life-limiting illness will live and die with dignity and in comfort, enabling more people from all communities to access the care of their choice at the end of life.

The volunteering day follows a £6,000 donation made to the hospice in May this year, as part of our Community Champions scheme.

Luke Manley, Senior Community and Business Development Fundraiser at Birmingham Hospice, said: “We cannot be more thankful to Persimmon Homes Central for their invaluable support and for the creation of a wonderful sensory garden at our Erdington site. Seeing it transformed from an unused area into place of beauty was simply amazing.

“Thanks to the kindest and generosity of our new green fingered friends, terminally ill patients, families and hospice teams across Birmingham Hospice can now enjoy a fantastic mixture of sounds, smells and textures, whilst making every moment matter. It costs around £16 million to run Birmingham Hospice each year and thanks to Persimmon Homes kindly donating and creating our new sensory garden, we can continue to fund other vital care services across our hospice and community when people need us most.”

Neil Williams, Managing Director at Central region, said: “What we do is about so much more than building quality homes; it’s also about supporting the communities in which we build in a number of ways.

“At Persimmon, we encourage our team to volunteer their time to causes close to their hearts and it’s great to know that our work has had a positive impact on Birmingham Hospice, helping to create a welcoming environment in their open spaces.”
