Community service in Calverton gets funding boost
18 January 2021
A community centre in the heart of Calverton has received £1,000 from a housebuilder to help maintain its services.
Calverton Core was awarded the funds by Persimmon Homes Nottingham, thanks to its Community Champions scheme.
For the past 25 years, the all-encompassing charity has supported the Calverton community with a range of educational, wellbeing, craft and social classes, advice and services. With current funding ending the housebuilder’s donation will help the group continue to serve local people.
Susan Matthews from Calverton Core said: “The services and support we provide has become part of everyday life for many in Calverton. “Naturally, we have had to adapt our offering to phone calls, doorstep comfort visits and Zoom sessions, which is working well.
“One of our major funding grants has ended and we are looking for other sources to help maintain our work so we were completely delighted to receive Persimmon Homes support.”
Persimmon Homes Nottingham makes two donations of up to £1,000 every month to grassroots groups and charities in the areas where it is building.
Neil Follows, managing director of Persimmon Homes Nottingham, said: “Our Community Champions scheme is all about supporting the community and what could be better than supporting such a community centred group as Calverton Core.”
Persimmon Homes is currently in the early stages of creating a new development in Calverton. Forest View, located off Park Road, which will feature a collection of over 300 homes over the coming years. Work is anticipated to start in the Spring.
