FirstBuy helps Telford pair get onto the property ladder
A Telford couple are excitedly watching their first home being built – brick by brick – after becoming the very first people to buy a house at the new Persimmon Homes development at Coppice Grove, Ironstone.
Kate Bayliss and Jonathan Dyer jumped at the chance to own their home thanks to the FirstBuy scheme, which allowed them to buy their three bedroom Persimmon ‘Alder’ style house with a smaller deposit than they expected.
Kate said: “It is so exciting that we will be able to watch the house being built, just for us, especially as it is our first home.
“Because we have signed up for the house off-plan we have been able to choose the colours, what worktops we have in the kitchen and they agreed to carpet the house for us, which is a huge bonus when you’re on a tight budget.
“We feel so lucky to be able to choose everything so the house will be perfect for us.”
Kate, 30, who works for the local authority, and 36-year-old Jonathan visited the Coppice Grove site at Ironstone and quickly signed up for a home using the government equity loan scheme which aims to help first time buyers with smaller mortgage deposits.
“I’ve always rented, but Jonathan and I wanted to settle down in our own home. We had been looking for more than 12 months but although we had some deposit saved we couldn’t get to the ten per cent the mortgage lenders were asking for.
“It’s really hard to save more when you are renting and have bills to pay.
“Then we saw a Persimmon advert for FirstBuy and thought it would be the perfect solution.
“Coppice Grove offered us a good location for work, family and friends, and the house represents fabulous value for money. There was nothing else of that size and quality on the market in Telford within our budget, so to be able to get a brand new house and garage was better than we had ever imagined.”
Persimmon has been awarded the largest FirstBuy allocation of any housebuilder, meaning the company has a wide choice available to buyers at several of its West Midlands locations.
At Coppice Grove, Persimmon offers two, three, four and five bedroom homes, with FirstBuy prices starting at just £119,960*. Designs include the three bedroom semi-detached ‘Alder’ with en suite bathroom and single garage, and the four bedroom detached ‘Maple’, which boasts a study and a Juliette balcony to the master bedroom.
Buyers signing up early benefit from pre-showhome prices and, like Kate and Jonathon, can select the tiles, worktops and finish to suit their own taste.
Coppice Grove is part of Ironstone, Telford’s premier new homes development. Located just two miles west of Telford town centre, it is currently the largest sustainable urban residential development of its kind in the UK, providing 3,500 homes, alongside new health, education, retail and leisure facilities.
The project represents a visionary approach to new home building, placing a greater emphasis on design and sustainability. The result is a new community with a clear character and a strong sense of place.
