Cricket club benefits from funding

A Mansfield cricket club has secured a donation for temporary marquees to support its season.
Glapwell Colliery Cricket Club applied to our Community Champions scheme and was awarded £675 towards new outdoor canopies as well as match kit.
The self-funded cricket club, located on Park Avenue, welcomes all ages and abilities and plays in the Bassetlaw League with its adult teams as well as various junior leagues.
Phil Matthews for the cricket club said: “Covid greatly affected our season last year and we anticipate it will also have an impact this year. We are working hard to be ready for the forthcoming season by providing a series of sheltered outdoor canopies for players, officials and spectators.
“We see this as a significant, but important, investment for the club. As our facilities are used by other sport clubs and schools for events and tournaments, we feel the new marquees will become a valuable asset. We are very grateful to the Persimmon Homes Nottingham team for their support.”
Persimmon Homes Nottingham makes two donations of up to £1,000 every month to grassroots groups and charities across the region.
Neil Follows, managing director, said: “Our Community Champions scheme is all about supporting the community where we are building, and Glapwell Colliery Cricket Club are a good example of how they are safely adapting to meet Covid rules.”
