Donation boost has Community Council on track for new facilities

20 September 2022

A project to improve community facilities in Guardbridge has moved a step closer, following a donation from our North Scotland region.

Guardbridge Community Council has been raising funds to improve local facilities and provide adult exercise equipment in the local park, ever since better use of green space was identified as a priority by local residents.

From a spinning bike to a rower, the outdoor gym will provide a range of equipment for local residents to use and is specifically designed to offer users with a wide range of disabilities easy accessibility.

North Scotland region has committed £4,000 to support the project, which has now secured nearly 90% of the funding needed. The Community Council is working closely with Fife Council, who will install, insure and maintain the facilities once the funding target has been reached.

The donation has been delivered through our Community Champions programme, which sees up to £64,000 donated to good causes across the UK every month. Our Eden Woods development in Guardbridge includes 100 new affordable homes and 334 private homes, with investment in the local community also supporting an extension to Guardbridge Primary School, a new community footpath and an upgrade to the Main Street roundabout.

Alan Sturrock, Chair of Guardbridge Community Council, said:

“We are delighted to accept the donation from Persimmon towards the park project, which will help us achieve our funding target much quicker.

“We hope to raise the remaining funding by the spring, which would mean the equipment could be in the park next summer.”

Tay Bridgehead Councillor, Jonny Tepp, said:

“I am very pleased that Persimmon have been able to support this community project from their community fund.

“The Guardbridge Community Council are doing a fantastic job and I would like to congratulate them on their fundraising efforts to date. I look forward to seeing them complete this project and Persimmon have helped bring them a step closer.”

James MacKay, Persimmon North Scotland Managing Director, said:

“I want to congratulate everyone involved in the Community Council for their commitment and tireless fundraising efforts.

“This project will make a real difference to residents in Guardbridge and I’m delighted we’re able to make a contribution and move it one step closer to delivery.

“By working with the local community, our aim is to ensure Persimmon’s investment in Guardbridge and across Fife delivers real benefits for local people – and helping to improve local facilities is one example of this.”
