East Wales and councillors mark Herefordshire groundbreaking

02 May 2025

Persimmon Homes were delighted to welcome county councillors to a groundbreaking at its new site in Leominster.

The Deputy Leader of Herefordshire Council, Cllr Elissa Swinglehurst, and Cllr Allan Williams, who represents Leominster West, joined the five-star housebuilder at its forthcoming Hawthorn Park last week to mark the groundworks that are now underway.

Prices for the energy-efficient one, two, three, four and five-bedroom homes at the 353-unit development – 88 of which will be transferred to a local housing association – will be announced shortly, with the showhome opening and sales launch occurring in June.

All homes will be equipped with solar panels, while over £500,000 was spent by Persimmon on credits to ensure the development is nutrient neutral, meaning no harm is caused to the River Wye and its tributaries.

The development will trigger £1.8m of financial contributions from the developer to the community, including for local education, recycling facilities, sports facilities, transport improvements, and attenuation measures.

Settled within Leominster, a new home in this exciting and family-friendly development is within walking distance of the town’s quaint and historic streets, featuring an excellent range of independent shops, schools, supermarkets, and amenities.

Along with its medieval heritage and Georgian architecture, the town’s modern transport links make it a perfect base for easy commutes. For days out, the stunning Brecon Beacons in under an hour away by car, while the county of Herefordshire has a wealth of attractions to explore, from epic castles to beautiful parks.

Persimmon Homes East Wales’ managing director, Lee Hawker, said:

“We’re very pleased with the progress we’ve made at Hawthorn Park and it was great to welcome Councillors Swinglehurst and Williams to view the site.

“Our aim is to deliver high-quality homes for local people in Leominster, while also creating lasting benefits for the community, including new jobs and investment. We value working closely with local stakeholders to ensure a positive legacy for the area.

“Persimmon looks forward to launching our showhome on site and opening up to customers later this year.”

Cllr Elissa Swinglehurst – Deputy Leader of Herefordshire Council and Cabinet Member for the Environment – added:

“It was a pleasure to see Persimmon’s site and the amount of activity going on to bring these new, much-needed homes to Leominster.

“We know we need more housing, especially for younger people, and the delivery of a major site like this in Herefordshire will be of great benefit to the community.

“It is also very encouraging to hear of the sustainability and environmental features of the properties coming forward, which will benefit residents through lower bills too.”

Cllr Allan Williams – councillor for Leominster West – commented:

“I am very pleased with Persimmon’s open attitude, inviting myself along to see progress at Hawthorn Park, and to see the progress being made on site.

“I was also impressed to learn of their renewed five-star HBF status recently too, which will give confidence to the local community that the developer is of a high standard.

“Maintaining the relationship between the local community and the developer is very important to make sure things run as smoothly as possible for people in Leominster, and it is positive to have this line of communication going forward.”
