East Wales secure planning permission for smaller phase at St Edeyrns Village development

19 April 2023

East Wales has successfully secured planning approval for a smaller phase within its wider St Edeyrns Village development.

The permission from Cardiff City Council is for the construction of seven high-quality new homes, continuation of the spine road and redefined curtilage to St Julian’s Manor, which is based at the site.

The phase’s architecture will reflect a continuation of the established approach within the Village, maintaining the character and continuing built form along a tree-lined spine street. The manor house will be retained with an improved access arrangement and marketed for refurbishment.

The phases lies within the St Edeyrns area where over 1,000 new homes will be developed, as well as a district centre, primary school, community facility and allotments.

Through the course of development, we have made substantial contributions to the local community, including over £4m bus service contribution, £312k in highways and transport improvements, £386k for the Rhymney Trail improvement contribution, and an affordable housing contribution of just under £10m to the local authority.

Commenting on the approval, Persimmon East Wales Managing Director, Lee Woodfine, said:

“We are pleased to have secured approval for this smaller phase of seven new homes within our wider St Edeyrns development.

“The design seeks to build upon the development’s assets, character and local context and its delivery will provide an integrated further element to the Village and safeguard the future of the listed building.

“The Village is booming and delivering a range of homes designed for local people, especially young families and first-time buyers, who otherwise might struggle to get onto the housing ladder in Cardiff.

“The wider development is also providing significant community benefit including new jobs, amenities, infrastructure, and a new primary school which is due to open later this year.

“We are delighted that St Edeyrns continues to be a sustainable and inclusive community that is delivering quality new homes and an array of investment in the local area.”
