Fitness fanatics given lifeline thanks to Persimmon Homes

A popular fitness academy in Derby has received £1,000 from North Midlands as part of its Community Champions scheme.
Here at Persimmon we make £64,000 a month available to fund community initiatives across the UK.
Inspire Fitness Academy works with the local community to create opportunities for all ages through sport, fitness, health, and education.
Originally set up as an after-school boxing club by a local PE teacher, its main aim was to get children off the street and break cycles of antisocial behaviour and gangs.
The club started full time in 2008 and evolved into a charity for disadvantaged children and young people two years later after crime statistics began to fall.
Sam Godfrey, from Inspire Fitness Academy, said: “We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Persimmon Homes for selecting us to receive this generous donation.
“Like a lot of charities across the UK, we lost most of our income due to the pandemic so we haven't been able to buy any new equipment since 2019.
“This funding will enable us to buy desperately needed equipment such as gloves and mitts to enable the children to work in pairs, learning key skills such as communication and teamwork.
“Our local Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community is profiled by the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) as 10-15% most disadvantaged in the country. Already having low-household incomes, it has been disproportionately affected by the Covid economy crisis exacerbating financial hardship.
“Families cannot afford extracurricular activities for children and in many cases over the last 17 months we have been providing care packages to local families with food, hygiene and school supplies.
“It means so much to be able to offer boxing and fitness free of charge to all children who cannot afford to pay and for most, our sessions are the only extracurricular sports and fitness they can access.”
Nadine O'Dowd, sales director at North Midlands, said: “We’re really proud to be supporting Inspire Fitness Academy because the work they do in Derby and the surrounding areas is really important.
“The club offers participants the opportunity to gain recognised leadership and coaching qualifications which can help local young people build pathways towards employment.
“It’s been really rewarding to learn how Sam and the team improve the lives of so many people in the local community and hopefully this donation will help them to continue their good work in the future.”
