Funding support for worthy regional groups

02 July 2015

Two worthy local causes have been given a cash boost from Persimmon Homes Midlands, demonstrating the diversity of organisations being supported by Persimmon's funding scheme.

A charity supporting young people in Bicester and a short mat bowls club from Northamptonshire are the latest ‘Community Champions’ groups to receive donations of £1,000 each.

The initiative aims to support local groups and charities with a pot of £24,000 of match-funding available. Organisations can apply via www.persimmonhomes.com/charity

As the fastest-growing town in Europe, Bicester has a particular need for activities for young people, which the OYAP Trust seeks to address.

Charity spokeswoman Zaylie-Dawn Wilson said: “OYAP Trust aims to provide opportunities to learn and develop confidence and skills through creative projects, nurturing talent and forging community spirit.

“Persimmon’s donation will support the development of a Digital Challenge project specifically for young people with autism, helping them to find new ways to express themselves through working with artists and a mentor.”  More information about the charity’s work can be found at www.oyap.org.uk

Northamptonshire short mat bowls club, Roade Rollers, has 50 members aged from around 50 to over 90. Club secretary Sue Hagon said: “Our members have found it increasingly difficult to roll up the heavy carpets we use for bowling after each session. If we are not able to roll up the carpets we may be forced to cease playing. Therefore we are fundraising to purchase an electric carpet winder.

“We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes for their generous support which will help to safeguard the club’s future and ensure the elderly members can continue to socialise and stay active.”

Suzanne Irons, sales director for Persimmon Homes Midlands, added: “Community Champions aims to help groups and charities that make a real difference to the lives of local people.

“Both of these excellent organisations perform vital roles in their communities, so we are proud to support their endeavours.”

The Persimmon Community Champions initiative is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.  Nationwide the company will donate a total of £750,000.

Persimmon Homes Midlands has developments throughout Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Oxfordshire.
