05 February 2021
A new forest school at a Hawksworth school is to be fully equipped, thanks to a housebuilder’s donation.
Hawksworth Primary School has received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, as part of its Community Champions scheme.
The village school aims to develop its pupils’ outdoor learning facilities which will see essential equipment and new learning resources funded by the housebuilder.
Headteacher, Mr Norris, said: “We are very grateful that our PTA team is working hard to fundraise for our new facility, and we are completely delighted that Persimmon Homes has chosen to support our project.
“Our outdoor classes provide a unique and beneficial hands-on learning experience for our pupils, as we aim to give them a greater understanding of the natural environment.
“The donation will fund equipment and tools including netting, a waterproof shelter, fire pit, safety and waterproof clothing and kneeling pads as well are learning resource kits for wildlife and bug investigation.
“The benefits of outdoor learning are endless and Persimmon Homes’ donation will help us to enhance our facilities and enrich our pupils’ education.”
Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire makes two donations of up to £1,000 every month to grassroot groups and charities in the areas where it is building.
Christopher Hull, managing director for Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, said: “Our Community Champions scheme is all about supporting the communities where we are building and there is no better way than helping to inspire our younger generation.”
