Helping Bishopton rugby club update facilities

27 July 2021

A Bishopton sports club has received a donation to help it improve its outdated changing facilities that were originally ministry of defence police barracks.

Bishopton Rugby Football Club received a £1,000 donation from our West Scotland team. The money was donated through our monthly Community Champions scheme. Each month, each of our regional branches donate up to £2,000 to community groups.

The club, based in Holmpark in Bishopston, has men’s and women’s rugby teams and offers free rugby for children under 18.  Club secretary, Andy Jackson, applied for the funding to help raise the £25,000 needed to bring current facilities up to date.

Our West Scotland branch has almost completed a huge regeneration project in Bishopton that has delivered hundreds of new homes and firmly believes in supporting communities where it builds.

Secretary for Bishopton Rugby Football Club, Andy Jackson, said: “To be a truly sustainable and community focused club that attracts people that want to play rugby we desperately need to improve our changing facilities and we are thrilled to receive support from Persimmon Homes.

“We are already growing our grass root sports and want to develop this further with a new Touch Rugby section. We have ambitious plans to brings all our facilities up to date and with the help of Bishopton Community Development Trust, the new owners of our playing and training pitches, and support from local business we know we can achieve our goal.”

Chris Logan, managing director for Persimmon Homes West Scotland, said: “We believe in supporting local communities and especially grassroot sport, and are delighted to be able to help the rugby football club.

“Our Dargavel Village developments have been under construction for more than seven years and we take pride in the thriving community that has emerged.  We wish the club the best of luck with future fundraising that will benefit young rugby players for years to come.”
