House builder drives funds for The Beatson

20 September 2023

The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Care Centre in Glasgow set to benefit from bumper donation.

A charity golf tournament organised by staff at Persimmon West Scotland has resulted in more than £12,000 being raised to support The Beatson.

Over 80 golfers took part in the tournament at The East Renfrewshire Golf Club, with teams of four from a variety of local companies competing for a host of top prizes. Amongst the participants on the day was football legend Frank McAvennie.

After the scores were added up, it was Total Scaffold who topped the leaderboard and secured the first prize of a fourball at Dundonald Links Golf Club.

The tournament was sponsored by Loch Lomond Group, who provided players with a dram of whisky after the tournament to ensure they were fired up for the auction.

Earlier this year, staff at Persimmon’s West Scotland office selected The Beatson as their charity of the year and committed to organising a range of fundraising activities throughout the year.

The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre at Gartnavel Hospital is the largest cancer centre in Scotland. Opened in 2008, the centre delivers an unprecedented level of care to thousands of patients across the West of Scotland, with links to 16 hospitals in Glasgow and other areas across the region.

Charlene Low, regional fundraising manager at Beatson Cancer Charity, said:

“We are delighted to have the support from Persimmon Homes and can’t wait for these amazing events to take place.

“Fundraising events like this allow us to work on developing new services to enhance the care and support cancer patients and their families receive during their cancer journey.

“Thank you to everyone at Persimmon Homes for their incredible support.”

Chris Logan, Managing Director of Persimmon West Scotland, said:

“We are delighted to be supporting the outstanding work of the Beatson across West Scotland by making the organisation our charity of the year.

“Our staff were keen to support a charity that makes a real difference to people’s lives and we are determined to raise as much money as possible to help the Beatson continue to deliver vital services for people in need.

“The golf day was a great example of that and I want to thank all our partners and suppliers who supported the event, including our main sponsor Loch Lomond Group.”
