Housebuilder supports safe house charity
03 February 2021
A London organisation supporting women who have been trafficked or exploited has received a grant of £1,000 from a leading housebuilder.
Ella’s received the donation through the Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme, an initiative that each month match funds two local good causes up to the value of £1,000.
Ella’s provides urgent care as well as long-term support to help women recover from the trauma they have experienced and move forward to build lives that are safe and free.
Minke van Til, Co-Director of Ella’s, said: “We provide safe houses for women in London when they are at their most vulnerable, tailored care to help them recover and long-term community-based support as they rebuild their lives.
“The pandemic is difficult for everyone but has been especially hard for the women we work with. It has restricted their access to the people and services aiding their recovery, as well as safe employment opportunities. In addition, lockdown has reminded many women of their past experiences of being locked away, exacerbating feelings of trauma and anxiety.
“We are very grateful to Persimmon Homes for their donation, which will enable us to provide some of the most vulnerable women in our society with a lifeline at this challenging time. This gift will go towards our fund for women going through particular times of crisis, for example paying for food vouchers or essential household items. This will play a critical role in enabling women to overcome and stay free from abuse and exploitation – transforming their lives and helping create a safe and supporting community for everyone.”
Gareth Kemp, Sales Manager for Persimmon Homes North London, said: “We have noticed that applications for our Community Champions scheme are on the rise, as charities continue to feel the effects of Covid-19.
“The funds are being put to such good use and we look forward to receiving nominations from anyone who is doing good work that makes a difference to their community. If a charity is not successful this month, I would urge them to reapply the following month.”
