Local MP meets new recruits at new Loughborough housing development

22 August 2022

Local MP Jane Hunt met with new recruits at the new site in Loughborough.

The visit took place at the development in Loughborough – Garendon Park – a 3,200 site that will provide mixed housing opportunities for the local community for many years.

The recruits have all commenced new roles within the company including utility co-ordinator apprentice, graduate planner and a placement on the Company’s graduate programme.

These appointments coincide with our Target 50 initiative which is an ambition to recruit 50 female apprentices or technical trainees into construction-related roles this year.

The initiative forms part of our 50th anniversary celebrations and supports our commitment to building and retaining a more diverse and inclusive workforce.

Commenting on her appointment, Utility Co-ordinator Apprentice Jasmine Collins said: “I hadn’t really considered a role in the construction industry but when I heard about the utility co-ordinator apprenticeship at Persimmon, I thought it would be a good way for me to learn new skills at the same time as undertaking a role that will enable me to build a longer term career. There are more roles in the industry than you might think and I would encourage any young person who is just thinking about what career path to take, to consider this industry.”

Commenting on the visit Jane Hunt MP said: “I was delighted to meet with the recruits and to hear more about the roles they will be undertaking at Persimmon Homes. The construction industry is important to our country and one that many young people could build successful careers. I was also pleased to hear more about Persimmon’s Target 50 initiative and their desire to entice more women into the industry.”

Sean Barratt, Technical Director at North Midlands commented: “We were delighted to welcome Jane to the site to meet our latest recruits.

“Building a workforce for the future is a key priority for our business and we are keen to support a range of talented people in their career journey.

“Initiatives such as Target 50 enable us to focus on building a more diverse workforce. We want to actively encourage more motivated and driven female apprentices and technical trainees to join us in construction roles and build a successful career at Persimmon.”

First homes on the Garendon Park development on Derby Road were released back in May and have already had a high level of interest.

Nadine O'Dowd, sales director at Persimmon Homes North Midlands, said: “This is going to be a stunning development in a really attractive area, situated just outside the historic and bustling market town of Loughborough, so it’s no surprise that we have already been inundated with enquiries from house hunter

Nadine added: “This development is located close to a superb range of amenities, as well as great leisure and entertainment facilities.

Loughborough also benefits from having the M1 close to hand and this great connection means it’s easy to get out and about whether buyers want to head for town or escape to the country.

Persimmon Homes at Garendon Park offers a range of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes, making it a great all-rounder for growing families and people looking for more space.

The plan for the site also includes a new primary school, community hub and sports hall, plus parks and a play facility.
