Local people show a keen eye for Ellesmere

03 December 2014

Creative local people have shown a keen eye for Ellesmere with winning contributions for a photography competition.

Persimmon West Midlands, which is developing its Waterside View site off Canal Way in the town, gave amateur photographers of all ages the chance to submit their images to illustrate what they loved about Ellesmere.

Winner in the adult category, Ian Wright from Cambria Avenue, captured an atmospheric view of the canal.

He said: “The picture was taken in November last year after a really damp few days. It showed just how quickly the sun can turn the grey into the lovely.

The canal and the views along it never fail to excite.”

Ian’s prize was £250 of shopping vouchers.

Twelve-year-old Lawrence Apps, from Ellesmere, was praised for his close-up shot of a butterfly, which was judged as the winner of the 12-and-under category.

Adult section runner-up was George Bundock, from Prescot, Liverpool, who received £50 of vouchers for his tranquil shot of St Mary’s Church from across the Mere.

Persimmon West Midlands sales director Stephen Cleveley said: “Ellesmere offers so much to see, with the Mere and canal, woodland walks and a bustling market town.

As we are building new homes for local people, we wanted to celebrate all those things that make living in Ellesmere so special.

We invited residents to share with us the views and images that they love about the town and its surrounding landscape and we were absolutely thrilled by the results.

Many of the entries showcased the natural beauty of the Mere and were as breathtaking as the landscape itself.

The winning entries will be displayed in our showhome at Waterside View in the New Year.”

We are building 64 new three and four bedroom homes at Waterside View.
