Local rugby club scores donation

A local rugby club based in Wigan is celebrating after successfully securing funding.

Ashton Bears ARLFC is celebrating after successfully securing £3,000 in funding through Persimmon’s Community Champions scheme.

Ashton Bears ARLFC, dedicated to supporting the local community through sports and youth development, received the donation to help fund essential drainage improvements at their home ground, Bear Park.
The improvements will ensure the pitch remains in optimal condition, allowing the club to continue hosting matches and community events without disruption.

Councillor Danny Fletcher, Lead Member - Leisure and Public Health, Wigan Council and Ian Hilliker Managing Director Persimmon North West, visited the club to formally present a cheque for £3,000.

Councillor Danny Fletcher, Lead Member - Leisure and Public Health, Wigan Council said: “Ashton Bears ARLFC does fantastic work bringing the community together through sport and providing opportunities for young people. It's great to see local businesses like Persimmon supporting clubs like this, ensuring they can continue making a positive impact in our area."

Mark Webster, Secretary, Ashton Bears ARLFC, said: "We're incredibly grateful for the support from Persimmon. The drainage improvements are vital to maintaining our facilities, and this funding ensures we can continue to provide a safe and high-quality environment for our players and the wider community."

Ian Hilliker, Managing Director Persimmon North West, added: "We are delighted to support Ashton Bears ARLFC with this £3,000 donation. At Persimmon, we are committed to improving the communities where we operate, and supporting local sports clubs like Ashton Bears is a key part of that.
