Local rugby club scores funding

17 April 2023

Kirkcaldy Rugby Football Club has received a £1,000 donation from our North Scotland region.

Kirkcaldy Rugby Football Club (KRFC), which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, is celebrating after landing a donation through Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme. The community rugby club is run by a group of volunteers, who host a variety of programmes within the local area – ranging from primary school sessions to activities for those in their late 50s.

The club, which has both a men’s and women’s professional team, has taken home numerous trophies over their 150 year history. KRFC is based in Beveridge Park during summer and raises funds each year to support the costs of winter training on astro-turf pitches, which are hired four days per week.

The £1,000 donation from Persimmon North Scotland is part of our Community Champions scheme, which supports good causes in areas where the company builds new homes. The scheme has seen over £1.5m donated to local charities, clubs and organisations across the UK since 2021.

Stuart Oliver, Board member of Kirkcaldy Rugby Football Club, said “as a local rugby club, it’s great to receive support from companies like Persimmon. It helps us support our young people through participation in sport, looking after both their physical and mental health. This financial support allows us to develop coaching sessions for young people from the ages of 3-18 and purchase additional equipment to support their development.”

Cllr Julie MacDougall, Local Councillor, said “I was delighted to attend this presentation at Kirkcaldy Rugby Club as they celebrate their 150th year. This is what communities working together is all about and the Rugby Club is a great example of this. I understand this cheque from Persimmon Homes will hugely assist the Rugby Club to obtain more items so everyone can participate and enjoy.”

James MacKay, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes added “we’re delighted to support Kirkcaldy Rugby Football Club with their fundraising efforts during their 150th anniversary year. The club has a rich history in Fife and is well-known to rugby enthusiasts across the country. Our Community Champions scheme focuses on supporting the areas where we create new communities and I hope that this donation will help with the club’s training costs and enable more people to participate in their activities.”
