Local Village Hub Wins Major Boost

21 August 2025

A Leicestershire village is celebrating after receiving a funding boost to support its community facilities.

Newbold Verdon Community Club has been awarded £5,000 from Persimmon Homes North Midlands through their Community Champions initiative.

The charity, set up after the closure of the NV Sports and Social Club, has grown to around 1,000 members in just 18 months. The club is run by volunteers who reinvest all profits to improve the facilities.

Newbold Verdon Community Club welcomed Dan Enderby, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes North Midlands, who presented the cheque to club members, alongside local MP Dr Luke Evans.

Keith Rawson from Newbold Verdon Community Club said:

"A big, big thank you to Persimmon Homes for the very kind and generous grant to Newbold Verdon Community Club via your Community Champions Scheme.

“This is so much appreciated and will be put to very good use. It will enable us to make significant improvements at a faster pace and this will make a great deal of difference to the Club and our members.”

Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Hinckley and Bosworth, said:

“The Newbold Verdon Community Club is a really important community asset which has brought a lot to the village since it reopened last year.

“I encourage anyone in Newbold Verdon and the surrounding villages who is looking for a welcoming space to relax with family, friends and neighbours to join the Club, hire the space for events and support our local economy.

“Well done to everyone at NVCC who has worked hard over the last 18 months to refurbish and reopen the Club and put forward a successful application for this competitive fund. I wish them all the best as they continue to provide services and events right at the heart of our community.”

Dan Endersby, Managing Director at Persimmon Homes North Midlands said:

"At Persimmon, we are committed to supporting the communities where we build and helping local facilities thrive. Newbold Verdon Community Club plays an important role in bringing people together, and we hope it helps create a lasting benefit for residents of Newbold Verdon."
