Megan’s Maze set to return following £1,000 funding boost

An infants’ school in Fareham, Hampshire, is celebrating after receiving a £1,000 funding boost thanks to South Coast.

Ranvilles Infant School applied to the Community Champions scheme, which was established to provide financial support to local charities, organisations and good causes.

Rachael Collins from Ranvilles Infant School explains: “We have been raising money to refurbish a special area of our playground called Megan’s Maze, which was built in memory of Megan, a former pupil of the school who very sadly died.  Unfortunately, in recent years the area has become a bit tired and is now in need of refurbishment, so we have been fundraising to pay for the work via organising events such as a sponsored walk and a Halloween trail.

“Our plan is to bring the area back to life and create a quiet and pleasant space for the children to relax in and where our teaching staff can also hold storytelling sessions.  We would like to say a huge thank you to Persimmon Homes South Coast for this generous donation which will be a big help in bringing about the refurbishment of Megan’s Maze.”

Joe Lindsay, director in charge at South Coast, added. “Fundraising for many good causes and charities has undoubtedly been even more difficult since the arrival of the pandemic nearly two years ago. Refurbishing this special area is important for the school so the pupils and teachers can effectively use and enjoy it again, but also for the memory of young Megan who gave the garden its name, so we are delighted to be able to help with this donation.

“We always encourage charities, organisations and good causes from across the region to apply to Community Champions scheme for support.  The online application form is very straightforward to complete, and they could easily find themselves as being next month’s community champion.”
