New affordable homes delivered at Malthouse Meadows

Families are preparing to move into four new houses at our development in West Sompting, Adur after the latest homes for affordable rent were handed over.

The family houses at Malthouse Meadows were handed over to housing association partner Worthing Homes for social rent, helping alleviate pressure on Adur District Council’s housing wait list.

The homes will offer future residents a high-quality, energy efficient properties benefitting from spacious gardens, plus they can take advantage of the nature walks, play spaces and community orchard being delivered as part of the wider Malthouse Meadows scheme.

We are currently building out Phase 1 of the development in West Sompting, bringing 96 new homes to the area including a total of 30 for those whose needs are not met by the open market, with eight for shared ownership and 22 social rent homes.

Phase 2, which was approved by Adur District Council’s planning committee last month, will deliver an additional 20 homes for social rent and seven shared ownership homes with further homes for social rent planned within Phase 3.

Cllr Lee Cowen, Executive Member for Housing at Adur District Council, visited Malthouse Meadows last week as the homes were handed over to Worthing Homes to see the quality of housing being offered to those in housing need locally.

He said: “I welcome this partnership working between Persimmon Homes and Worthing Homes. Together we are working to tackle the housing crisis locally and offer high-quality new homes to families in need in Adur.

“This development offers considerable areas of open space and links to the existing neighbourhood, which are positive signs we are creating a cohesive community here.”

Max Newall, of Worthing Homes, said: "We’re proud to work with Persimmon and the council to provide homes that make a real difference to people’s lives.

“These new properties represent hope, security and a place to call home."

Dan Castle, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes Thames Valley, said: “Persimmon Homes is committed to leaving a positive lasting legacy in the areas within which we are building and these homes are an example of how we are doing that.

“We are excited to see this development continue to grow, bringing green spaces for families to enjoy, green travel routes and the community orchard which will be a huge asset to West Sompting.”
