Persimmon helps vets to help poorly pets

21 December 2020

A veterinary charity that cares for the poorly pets of people on low incomes in Edinburgh has received a £1,000 boost from housebuilder Persimmon Homes.

PDSA operates a pet hospital in Hutchinson Crossway, Gorgie, where vets and nurses see scores of pets every day, ranging from emergency treatments to lifesaving operations.

Katie Tams from the charity said: “Lots of owners tell us how much their pets have helped them in difficult times, not least through the Covid 19 pandemic. The effect of this virus has forced many households into redundancy or reduced hours, meaning more people turn to PDSA to care for their animals.

“At the same time, our own income has been hit badly, so we need support more than ever to help those pet owners who rely on us.”

The PDSA Edinburgh Pet Hospital carries out more than 68,000 procedures every year and more than 6,000 pet owners are registered with the charity.

On behalf of Persimmon Homes East Scotland, director in charge Neil Parry said: “PDSA does a wonderful job helping the pets of people who are struggling to pay for vet care. We hope that our donation will help them to continue delivering this vital service to the people of Edinburgh.”

Persimmon Homes has several attractive developments in the Edinburgh area, including The Willows, the forthcoming mixed scheme of apartments and houses at Burgh Gate in Mussleburgh, plus the neighbouring developments of Lang Loan and Kings Cove to the south of the city.

The company’s Community Champions programme welcomes applications from groups within the community and every month there are two donations available, worth up to £1,000 each.
