Persimmon Homes and Anwyl Homes back resident's bid for superfast broadband

03 April 2018

Persimmon Homes and Anwyl Homes are bringing new homes to the village of Oakenholt in Flintshire, they have agreed to back one resident’s efforts to bring superfast broadband to the area.

Tom Mitchell moved into his new home at The Oaks in Oakenholt in December 2015, where his broadband connection of around 8MB was being supplied by one small copper cabinet on the main road.

He contacted his communication provider who told him about a scheme enabling residents to crowdfund the cabinet upgrade.

After raising 20% of the total cost himself, Tom turned to Persimmon Homes and Anwyl Homes to ask whether they would pay the shortfall to bring fibre-to-the cabinet enabling download speeds of up to 80 Mbps to all properties on the earlier phases of the Oakenholt development.

Persimmon Homes and Anwyl Homes agreed to each pay £2,000 towards the broadband solution, and the work is now due to be completed within 12 months.

Tom said: “I’m thrilled that Persimmon and Anwyl have agreed to support this initiative which will undoubtedly make a huge difference to the lives of all those living on the earlier phases of this development.”

“Today, more so than ever, superfast broadband is considered the ‘4th utility’ and I am so excited to be able to bring this proposition to life for Persimmon, Anwyl and all of my Oakenholt neighbours.”

Mark Cook, Regional Managing Director for Persimmon Homes North West said: “We were happy to support Mr Mitchell’s effort to bring superfast broadband to The Oaks, especially as the benefits will be felt by existing residents and potential homeowners for many years to come.”

“Estate agents and sales negotiators are more and more often being asked whether superfast broadband is available in new homes, and in this case, we are delighted to be able to say that yes it is.”

While Mathew Anwyl, Housing Managing Director of Anwyl Homes, said: “We are also happy to support this initiative as we appreciate just how important fast and reliable internet access is for our new home owners, who rely on it daily for a wide range of work and leisure related activities.”

Anwyl Homes is selling a range of 3 and 4 bedroom homes from its development at Croes Atti in Oakenholt where prices start at £167,950 while the Persimmon Homes development, The Oaks, currently has a selection of 3 and 4 bedroom homes for sale from £128,995.
