Persimmon Homes raises thousands in memory of Harley

06 March 2014

Persimmon Homes North Midlands has presented more than £2,000 to a charity set up in memory of a boy who lost his battle with leukaemia at the age of eight.

Harley Staples died in November 2009 after being diagnosed with a rare form of the illness 10 months earlier. His mother and father, Katherine and Jamie Staples, set up the charity after his death in the hope of creating a holiday home for other young cancer sufferers.

Persimmon Homes were so touched by the work of the Harley Staples Cancer Trust that they decided to support it last year by naming their new residential development in Bagworth ‘Harleys Place’ in his honour.

They also offered to donate £100 to the charity for every home sold at Harleys Place and have held various fundraising events, such as dress down days, over the past few months to reach the £2,000 total.

The trust also won £250,000 in a national charity competition set up by Persimmon Homes in 2012 which they aim to use to create their holiday home.

Katherine, founder of the Harley Staples Cancer Trust, said: “We were delighted when Persimmon Homes North Midlands named their development in memory of Harley. To now receive a donation of £2,000, on top of all that they have done for us, is fantastic and we cannot thank them enough.

“Persimmon Homes has shown us just how hard they work to help the local communities in which they build. Thanks to them, we have experienced amazing exposure, which is a real coup as we strive to spread our charity message as far and wide as possible.”

Sherrie Hankin, head of sales for Persimmon Homes North Midlands, said: “The Harley Staples Cancer Trust was our nominated charity last year and we could not think of a more worthwhile cause.

“We are delighted to have raised so much money for the trust and cannot wait to see their holiday home when it is up and running. We are continuing to donate £100 for every plot sold.”

Harleys Place, off Jackson Road, in Bagworth, is a development of 56 two, three and four bedroom homes. Schemes such as Help to Buy, Home Change and Part Exchange are all available to help buyers take their first step or move up the property ladder with ease.
