Persimmon Homes renews its support for children's hospice

24 February 2014

Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire has confirmed its commitment to a Children’s Hospice for the third year running with a pledge to try to top the £11,000 raised last year.

It will help raise vital funds for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice through a series of employee led fundraising activities.

This year, Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire hopes to raise more than the £11,000 raised last year to continue to support the vital work carried out by the hospice. The charity has a £2.8m fundraising target each year in order to maintain its services.

Wayne Gradwell, managing director at Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, said of their ongoing commitment: “We first heard about Forget Me Not in 2012 when they entered the company’s national charity competition to win a house. Through a public vote the Hospice represented our region; although they did not win the house they did receive £6,000.

“The Hospice provides such a vital service to both children with life shortening conditions as well as their family. From working with them over the years, we have a greater understanding of the challenges they face and the funds required to maintain their service.

“This inspired us to choose them as our nominated charity last year but for 2014 we just wanted to support them in every way we can. We are currently working on new fundraising ideas that will hopefully inspire our teams.”

Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice was launched more than 12 years ago by a mother whose son required hospice care. It has a brand new hospice building, Russell House in Huddersfield, and also operates a hospice-at-home service to support more than 80 children with life limiting conditions and their families.

Kate Goldring, Corporate Partnership Manager at the charity added: “We are delighted with the generosity and on-going support of Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire.”

“With a huge fundraising target to meet each year we rely heavily on the support of our corporate partners. What Persimmon have already done and what they aim to do will make a difference to so many lives.”
