Persimmon Homes supports Shauney's Appeal

18 April 2018

A young Morecambe woman’s campaign to walk unaided has received a cash boost from Persimmon Homes.

Persimmon Homes Lancashire has donated £1,000 towards the Help Shauney Walk Unaided appeal, launched to raise £45,000 for a life-changing operation.

The award, from the Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme, will support 22-year-old Shauney Huntriss in her quest to walk unaided alongside her twin sister.

Shauney said: “I have cerebral palsy that affects my lower limbs. My dream is to walk alongside Hollie without discomfort or breathlessness.”

“I am currently fundraising for a life-changing operation that is not available on the NHS. The procedure – selective dorsal rhizotomy – could totally change my life.”

Supporters have already raised just over £1,000 for the fund and anyone interested in helping can donate at www.just4children.org/children-helped2018/help-shauney-walk-unaided

Diane Finch, sales and marketing director at Persimmon Homes Lancashire, added; “The Community Champions scheme was launched to enable us to make a difference to the lives of local people. Often that is by supporting a sports team or charity, sometimes a neighbourhood event.”

“This month we have chosen to donate to a very brave young woman who has faced many challenges already in life and we felt she deserved our help.”

Also receiving a £1,000 donation this month was Rock FM Cash for Kids, a charity supporting disadvantaged children across Lancashire by providing specialist equipment and memorable experiences for them and their families. More information about their work can be found at Rock FM website.

Persimmon’s national match-funding Community Champions scheme seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment across the region.

Community groups, charities and good causes across the country have benefited thanks to the donations from Persimmon Homes. Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity

The scheme invites local groups and charities to bid for cash from a £750,000 national fund, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made locally each month.

Persimmon Homes Lancashire has new homes developments across Lancashire and Cumbria.
