Plans for new Weston school submitted by Severn Valley
07 August 2023

Our Severn Valley region has submitted their planning application for the delivery a new school at its site in Weston-Super-Mare.
The plans for the building – designed to host Weston Airfield Primary School, a nursery, and a community space – were sent to North Somerset Council as part of the region's commitment at The Sandcastles site, which when complete will deliver over 2,500 homes to local families.
The T-shaped building will be the second school Severn Valley has delivered for the local community as part of the site. It will be equipped with solar panels, powered by air-source heat pumps, while the estate will also include wildflower areas, insect hotels, potential beehives, and log-based habitats.
There will be 630 places through three forms of entry at the school to serve the wider development. It will comprise of 21 classrooms, a 103-place nursery provision together with school hall, kitchen facilities, and staff and head teacher rooms. In addition, there is a community hub comprising of studios and changing room facilities.
Commenting on the plans for the new school, Persimmon Homes Severn Valley Managing Director Paul Moody said:
“Persimmon is extremely happy with the good progress being made at our high standard Haywood Village site in Weston, allowing us to start the next stage of the development which is building the school for the children who will occupy the new homes.
“Weston Airfield will be the second primary school that we will be built for the community we are creating and the plans – from its environmentally friendly energy sources and beautiful design to the nature-rich surroundings and community spaces – are exciting proposals to put to the Council.
“We’re not just building houses here, but homes. Throughout our work, creating a sense of place has been central to our vision, and that has not just meant these public facilities but ensuring our Community Champions initiative has benefitted people in Weston-Super-Mare.
“I look forward to seeing more award-winning work from our brilliant crews at Haywood Village and, eventually, Weston Airfield Primary serving the generations of children that will grow up here.”
The Haywood Village site has been regularly recognised for its high quality and the Five Star Builder prides itself on opening the opportunity of homeownership to thousands of families every year who might otherwise not be able to afford it.
We are also committed to supporting organisations in the communities in which we build, through the delivery of new infrastructure, facilities and amenities and wider community benefits. We donate over £700,000 to good causes each year throughout Britain as part of our Community Champions initiative. Local beneficiaries have included North Somerset People First, Westhaven School, Weston Jets Baseball Club, Haywood Village Academy, and Weston-Super-Mare RNLI.
