Pontyclun disability charity scoops donation

19 July 2021

A Pontyclun based charity which supports children and young people with disabilities has been given a £1,000 boost by us.

Follow Your Dreams helps the youngsters from birth to 18 to realise their potential and encourages them to be ambitious, focussing on their abilities and by developing skills.

The charity has been handed the gift from East Wales as part of the housebuilder’s re-launched Building Futures campaign, which runs until August.

Building Futures will deliver more than £1m to good causes this year.

Diane Blackmore, of Follow Your Dreams, said: “We’re thrilled to have won this money from Persimmon Homes as we’re more reliant than ever on grants due to Covid-19 and the difficulties that has presented with fundraising.

“This funding will allow to continue to provide online sessions, including bingo, arts and crafts, themed parties and sensory stories.”

Building Futures aims to support community groups working with under-18s across three categories – education & arts, health and sport.

A total of 128 grants of £1,000 will be awarded across our 32 regional businesses to improve local facilities and the delivery of vital community projects.

Three initiatives will go on to win £100,000 each through a national online public vote. The winners will be named at a gala dinner for finalists in November.

In each sector – education & arts, health and sport – as well as the £100,000 first prize, there will be a £50,000 second prize and a £20,000 third prize, while a further 87 shortlisted projects will each receive £5,000.

Victoria Williams, sales director at East Wales, said: “We’re delighted to help Follow Your Dreams and the fantastic work it is doing with young people in and around Pontyclun.

“The pandemic has had a huge impact on young people, particularly those with disabilities who might not have enjoyed the support and socialisation opportunities they are used to.

“Follow Your Dreams has stepped up to the plate to ensure they are not forgotten.

“Building Futures is all about helping young people and youth groups in our area. We’re accepting entries until mid-August so we’d urge more people to apply by visiting www.persimmonhomes.com/charity

We are currently selling stunning new-build homes at sites across South Wales, including in The Parish @ Llanilltern Village in Creigiau, where three-bed properties start from £279,995.
