RCT football team scores with new donation from house builder

18 December 2024

A local developer has donated £2,000 to the youth section of Llantwit Fardre Football Club as part of its Community Champions scheme.

Persimmon Homes East Wales, the company behind The Parish development at Capel Llanilltern, presented the donation to Llantwit Fardre FC Under 11’s at the club’s facilities. The funds will be used to enhance training and changing facilities, reinforcing the club's commitment to nurturing young talent in the community.

Llantwit Fardre Football Club has been a cornerstone of the local sporting community for decades since 1958, offering opportunities for boys and girls from the age of six to develop their footballing skills in a supportive and inclusive environment. With over 300 active mini, junior and youth players, the club plays a vital role in fostering a love for the sport and encouraging healthy lifestyles among young people.

The donation was made through Persimmon’s Community Champions scheme, which awards £24,000 annually to commendable organisations in the areas where the company operates. Recent beneficiaries include Creigiau Primary School, Show Racism the Red Card and St Fagans Cricket Club.

The five-star housebuilder’s live local development at the Parish @ Llanilltern Village has quality new homes available for local people from £189,995.

Commenting on the donation, Persimmon Homes East Wales’ Sales Director, Victoria Williams, said “We are delighted to support Llantwit Fardre Football Club’s youth section with this donation. Youth sports teams like this one are so important in providing opportunities for young people to develop their skills, build friendships, and stay active.

“Persimmon is proud to use our Community Champions fund to support initiatives that bring value to local communities. With The Parish, our development at Capel Llanilltern, we aim to build not just homes but communities. Supporting local clubs like Llantwit Fardre FC ensures that future residents will have vibrant, local opportunities for sports and recreation.”

Paul Atherton, Vice Chairman of Llantwit Fardre FC, added “This donation from Persimmon Homes is a huge boost for our youth section. The funds will allow us to invest in improving our training and changing facilities, ensuring we can continue to deliver high-quality football coaching.

“Sports clubs like ours don’t just teach kids about the game—they teach teamwork, discipline, and community spirit. We’re incredibly grateful for Persimmon’s generosity, which will make a real difference to our players. With the help of donations like this, Llantwit Fardre FC is determined to continue providing opportunities for young players to enjoy football and reach their full potential.”
