Rhoose choir hits high note with donation from East Wales

07 August 2025

Rhoose Local Vocals is the latest recipient of a Community Champions donation from Persimmon Homes East Wales.

The five-star housebuilder awarded £1,500 to the recently formed community choir, which is based in the village of Rhoose in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Rhoose Local Vocals welcomes singers of all musical abilities and places a strong emphasis on inclusion, providing a supportive space for members with disabilities or health challenges. The group also aims to raise money for local causes through performances, and has already become a valuable platform for community connection and mental wellbeing.

The funding from Persimmon will help the choir purchase essential musical equipment such as PA systems, music scores, and resources, as well as support hall hire costs—helping reduce financial barriers to participation and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the group.

The donation comes as Persimmon continues to progress plans to deliver 339 much-needed new homes in Rhoose. The proposed development includes affordable housing for local people, green space, and sustainable design features to support the local community’s needs.

Victoria Williams, Sales Director at Persimmon Homes East Wales, said:

“We’re delighted to support Rhoose Local Vocals through our Community Champions initiative.

“In a short space of time, this group has had a real impact on the community, offering not just music, but a place of welcome, support and inclusion. We hope our donation will help secure their future and enable them to continue bringing people together through song.”

Rebecca Fowler-Thomas, Musical Director for Rhoose Local Vocals added:

“We’re incredibly grateful to Persimmon for this generous donation. As a new group, the costs of equipment and hall hire have been a real challenge, but this support will make a huge difference.

“It means we can focus on growing our group, making it accessible to everyone, and bringing the joy of music to even more people in our community – while also raising funds for local causes.”

Persimmon donates £48,000 every year to good causes across Wales as part of its Community Champions programme, with other local recipients including AFC Rhoose, Whitmore Bay Surf Life Saving Club and Rhoose Community Library.
