A Wiltshire rugby team has been awarded £500 to fund a new kit for its under 15s squad.
Royal Wootton Bassett RFC based at Ballards Ash Sports Ground were handed the cash from Persimmon Homes Wessex. The team who compete in the South West Division were given the funding through the Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme. The initiative is open to charities, groups and individuals looking to match funds up to the value of £1,000 that they have already raised themselves.
Royal Wootton Bassett RFC under 15s team manager, Caroline Hughes-Miles, said: “We are a club at the heart of the community and rely on donations and the goodwill of volunteers. The club offers coaching to children from the age of six and we go right up to the senior rugby team too. It is a family orientated club and it is our focus to get children involved in the sport. It is why we require support for our under 15s youth team in the form of sponsorship of a new kit and training equipment. I’m delighted that Persimmon Homes have given us the £500 donation and helps secure rugby for this age group at our club.”
Pauline Fletcher, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes Wessex, added: “Royal Wootton Bassett RFC are a club who do so much for the community and we wanted to help their cause. It's great to see that getting children involved in sport is at the heart what they do and it is our pleasure to support one of their teams. We’ll be looking out for them and we wish them all the best for the remainder of the season.”
