The new must-have for your home
30 June 2020
The COVID 19 pandemic has had a dramatic effect on all aspects of life for people in Scotland prompting a considerable change in house hunters’ list of must-have features in their new home.
Sales and marketing director, Ingrid Gahagan at Persimmon Homes West Scotland, predicted an immediate shift in priorities for buyers in Scotland looking for a ready-made office in their home following the recent necessity to work from home.
Since lockdown started on 23rd March Scotland’s workforce has faced radical changes in the way that they work. The shift towards working from home was initially an experiment for many, ironing out IT issues, looking at new ways to keep in touch with customers, clients, and teammates.
For many working from home has become the new ‘normal’ approach to work but perching at a breakfast bar or taking over your dining room table is not ideal for people looking for quiet space to concentrate away from the day to day noise and activity of a household.
“Having worked in the property market for more than 25 years I can see that a stylish home office will become an important item on a buyer’s checklist when looking for a new home,” said Ingrid.
“While the new approach to working from home has its negatives and positives it seems that people have found a way to adjust. That said I can see from social media that people want to show off their working environment at home and are keen to have an office space that works for them and their family or housemates.”
“The addition or adaptation of a spare room into an office has been part of our design approach for some time and we have some fantastic examples of show homes complete with stylishly furnished offices that will inspire buyers looking for a quiet haven in their home to work.”
“Whether people love it or hate it, working from home could become a more permanent change to working practices for many. Having a space away from your private life offers a multitude of benefits that will help workers to define a positive work life balance, improve productivity and maintain mental health.”
“Location has always been at the top of buyers must have list, with the number of bedrooms a close second but perhaps the property market is set to see a shift towards the need for work-space. No matter how big or small the property we are offering creative ideas that homeowners will be proud to work in and show off on social media channels.”
