Wessex region supports Swindon Scouts group
16 June 2023

A local Swindon scouts group has received a funding boost from our Wessex region.
Wessex region has donated £1000 to the 1st West Swindon Scouts through the charitable ‘Community Champions’ scheme, which provides up to £750,000 to organisations and good causes across Britain every year.
The organisation is responsible for running Scouts, Cubs, Beavers and Explorers’ groups from the Scout hut in Toothill, and has around 75 young members.
The funding will help the group refresh its facilities as it looks to renew its fire doors, boiler and kitchen area at the hut. To mark the donation, Wessex region presented a cheque to the Group last night where they were joined by Swindon councillor, Fay Howard.
Commenting on the donation, Scout Leader, John Paine, said:
“We are very grateful for the support from Persimmon Homes Wessex, which will help us refresh our facilities at Toothill.
“We encourage young people to do more, learn more and be more, from teamwork to leadership and resilience – skills which have helped Scouts become everything from teachers and social workers to astronauts and Olympians.
“Our groups are really popular and in high demand, and this funding will help us deliver the best possible experience for our young people.
“On behalf of 1st West Swindon Scouts, I’d like to thank Persimmon for its donation.”
The group is based in the Mannington and Western ward of Swindon, and the local councillor, Fay Howard, said:
“I was delighted to join 1st West Swindon Scouts as they received their award from Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme.
“This donation will really help the Scouts carry on their good works in the area, continuing to provide a great place for children to learn new skills.”
Wessex region are currently delivering homes for local people in Swindon at its new Stanton Chase development.
The development is a 113-home site and will provide a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses for local people with prices starting from £299,995.
All new homes at the site will come with EV charging points, and public charging points will be provided.
Pauline Fletcher, Sales Director at Wessex region, said:
