Wessex region transfers first social homes for local people at new Warminster site
06 October 2023
Wessex region has transferred the first properties to its housing association partner at a new site in Warminster.
As part of its significant contribution to the local community, Wessex region signed a contract with Selwood Housing to deliver 43 homes at its Jubilee Gardens development.
The transfer of the nine properties forms the first tranche of the agreement between the housebuilder and the housing association.
The 43 quality homes for local people will consist of 26 affordable rent properties and 17 for shared ownership. They will include a mix of one to two-bed apartments and two to four-bed homes.
Commenting on the first handover of properties, Persimmon Homes Wessex Managing Director Julian Roper said:
“Persimmon is determined to leave a positive community legacy in all the areas in which we develop, and a key cornerstone of our offer is the transfer of quality new homes to our housing association partners.
“I am pleased that we have been able to partner with Selwood Housing at our new Jubilee Gardens development, and we hope this significant community contribution will help alleviate pressure on the local housing list in Warminster.
“We are delighted to deliver this increase in provision for local people as we embark on the first steps of our exciting journey at our brand-new development at Jubilee Gardens.”
Paul Walsh, Selwood Housing’s group development director, said:
“It’s fantastic to see the first people moving into their new homes in Warminster.
“We know the difference that affordable, secure homes make, and we’re really pleased to be Persimmon Homes’ affordable housing partner at Jubilee Gardens, building a range of much-needed affordable homes.
“Over the next year, we’ll build in total 26 new affordable rented homes and 17 shared ownership homes, which offers a great alternative to renting.”
As part of the development, Persimmon will invest millions of pounds in the local vicinity as the housebuilder delivers a sustainable community for local people.
This will include land for a new primary school, significant areas of open space including a riverside park, equipped children’s play areas, two areas of sports pitches and associated changing rooms.
A local centre, allotments, public art, employment land, improvements to public footpaths, new pedestrian and cycle routes, biodiversity enhancements and a dedicated ecology area will also be delivered at Jubilee Gardens.
Significant financial contributions will also be made towards education provision, bus services connecting the scheme with town centre, signal upgrades to improve vehicle movements in the town centre, health care in Warminster, and enhancements to local public rights of way.
A sizeable financial contribution will also be made by the housebuilder to the Wiltshire Community Infrastructure Levy, which will provide funding for local infrastructure priorities, and new roundabout accesses will be delivered on Victoria Road and Bath Road with a new spine road connecting the two.
