Planning secured to bring new homes to Midsomer Norton
06 January 2026
Persimmon Homes Wessex has been granted detailed planning approval to bring 180 high-quality homes to Midsomer Norton.
The five-star developer will build homes on the site in the south of the town, to the east of the Fosseway, which secured outline planning consent in February 2025.
Construction at the development, which will be known as Wellow Brook, will commence in a matter of months, with first occupations expected by the end of 2026.
The sensitively designed scheme will include new areas of green open space including a ‘Central Square’ with a children’s play area and ‘Southern Spur’ which will provide a community orchard and walking route alongside extensive new tree planting, forging a sense of place on site.
54 of the properties will also be reserved for a local housing association to help tackle Somerset’s substantial housing waiting list. There will also be new pedestrian and cycle connections throughout the site.
Commenting, Persimmon Homes Wessex Managing Director Seb Spiller, said:
“We at Persimmon are very pleased to have been granted detailed planning as we seek to bring high-quality housing solutions for local people in the Somer Valley area.
“Having secured detailed planning approval, we are very excited to deliver on our vision and making our plans a reality, leaving a positive and lasting legacy in the process.
“Wellow Brook will have a strong sense of place at the heart of its design, with new green open spaces, ecological enhancements and carefully designed new homes that incorporate local character features.
“Persimmon looks forward to continuing our work with local stakeholders as we seek to deliver quality new homes, jobs, and infrastructure for the local community.”
